On Saturday February 17th at 1:17 P.M. Scottsbluff Police were dispatched to the intersection of Broadway & E.27th Street in reference to a motor vehicle accident. The investigation showed that the only vehicle involved was being driven by 88 year old June Leider of Mitchell. Leider was driving a 2008 Honda Accord northbound on Broadway after having left the Scottsbluff Middle School. It is believed that Leider may have suffered an unknown medical issue at which time she began to accelerate and lose control as the vehicle rounded the corner at E.27th Street. Leider jumped the center curbed median jumping over the westbound lanes of E.27th Street. Leider’s vehicle then jumped the curb and into the grassy area of Calvary Lutheran Church. Leider’s vehicle then side swiped a tree causing the vehicle to collide with the brick exterior of the church. The vehicle then came to rest on the driver’s side with extensive damage. Scottsbluff Fire Department and Valley Ambulance crews worked hard to extricate Leider from the vehicle. Valley then transported Leider to Regional West Medical Center. Early indications are that Leider has a serious neck injury as well as multiple abrasions and contusions. The Honda Accord was a total loss. Calvary Lutheran Church sustained several thousand dollars in damage. The Honda was towed from the scene by Bumper to Bumper.
