For all of the drama that came with Gering’s 4-3 win over Chadron Monday night at the B-7 Area Legion Baseball Tournament, Tuesday night’s championship bout between Gering and Alliance was sort of anti-climactic.
Gering Platte Valley Companies repeated as district champs with a 12-2 win over the Spartans. Both teams will advance to this weekend’s Class B State Tournament, as Alliance is hosting state this year and gets an automatic bid.
Both teams scored in the first frame, as Gering held a 2-1 lead going into the top of the second inning. PVC exploded for five runs in that frame, and by the time Alliance batted in the bottom of the second, Gering led 7-1.
Chris Palomo had a big night offensively, finishing 2-for-3 with five runs batted in and one run scored. Brent Barge went 0-for-1, but managed to cross home plate three times, Austin Abbott was 2-for-2 with three RBI’s and two runs scored, Mike Gutherless was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, Dylan Radzymski was 2-for-3 with two RBI’s and Riley Schaneman went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Palomo also got the start on the mound for PVC, and yielded just one run on three hits across four innings of work. JJ Garza took the loss on the mound for Alliance.
Gering is now 28-16 on the season, while Alliance is 19-17.
Who will be joining those two at state?
