Nebraska Families of Military Fallen Invited to Free May 13 Events to Honor Fallen Military Members

The Honor and Remember Nebraska Chapter will honor fallen members of the military and their families on Saturday, May 13, during the 7th annual Families of the Fallen gathering, dinner and walk, followed by the Creighton University Salute Our Military and First Responders baseball game.

The events are free to Nebraska families whose family members died while serving in the U.S. military, including during any war, in peacetime, or as a result of injuries or illness resulting from military service.

Up to six family members can attend. Additional tickets can be requested. Reservations must be made by April 7.

The Honor and Remember Nebraska Chapter, an all-volunteer, non-profit organization established in 2011, presents special flags to families to honor the memory and sacrifice of the fallen military member. The flags, which are donated through sponsorships, are tailored with the fallen service member’s name, rank, date of death and country of death.

To date, 131 flags have been presented. The Nebraska Chapter is part of the national organization, which was established in 2008.

The free events are as follows.

2:30-5:30 p.m. — families of the fallen gathering and dinner at ConAgra Commons dining area in Bldg. 1 on the ConAgra Corporation campus, east side of 10th Street between Harney and Farnam Sts.

6:00-6:15 — about 200 families of the fallen will walk to TD Ameritrade Park led by bagpipers, color guard, Boy and Girl Scouts, Junior ROTC cadets, police, firefighters and military members.

6:30 — TD Ameritrade Park, Creighton University Salute Our Military and First Responders baseball game. Prior to game there will be a flyover, parachute drop and elite color guard

After the game, Echo Taps will be played as the names of the Nebraska fallen and first responders will scroll on screens. Fireworks will follow.
