The Scottsbluff Public Schools Board of Education and Splash Foundation Board held a Joint Work Session on Monday, February 13th to discuss the future of the Splash Arena Facility. Members of the Splash Foundation Board, District Administration and Scottsbluff/Gering Seacats coach Mike Hayhurst were present and took part in the work session.
After discussion was held regarding the condition of the Splash Arena facility and significant and ongoing expenses associated with its operation the following course of action was agreed upon by both the Board of Education and the Splash Foundation:
The indoor pool will be closed 1) if there is a major equipment or infrastructure failure; or 2) should none occur, at the conclusion of the 2018-19 swim season. Until this time, the Splash indoor pool will continue to be operated by the Splash Foundation in partnership with Scottsbluff Public Schools.
Since the city ceased operation of the outdoor community pool two years ago, no other operator has stepped forward. Consequently the outdoor pool will be demolished this spring.
Formal action will be taken on the above two items at the Board of Education meeting on March 13, 2017.
